» Need Windows 2000 driver for US Robotics 56K Internal Modem
I have a hitachi visionbook pro 7000 series laptop. I had window NT on it up thought I would upgrade to Windows 2000 Professional. That was my first mistake! Now my US Robotics 56K internal modem will not work. I suspect that I need windows 2000 drives to drive this thing. Where can I get them? When I remove the device my computer detects it again and says 16550 (I guess that may be relevent in your search for the correct driver). I need to know where to download the windows 2000 driver.Hello crabapple, I would say that it would probably be best to go back to Windows NT. If you want to keep Windows 2000, then you might have to find a new modem. After extensive searching I was unable to find this driver for you. The US Robot...... - 2009-07-03

» Whats a good number for a glucose blood?
Before a meal - 70-110 After a meal - 90-140There are so many doctors and ideas of what "normal" blood glucose levels are that I don't think any doctor REALLY knows what normal is but if you can keep your blood glucose levels between 70-120 you will do great. I am diabetic as well and I think the different levels of "normal" that varies between doctors is a good case of "my medical training is better than yours" syndrome when actually they have no clue what-so-ever. 70-120 mg/dL is a good range. It is recommended for people to keep their fasting blood sugar (before breakfast) between 70- 99. Although, we have found if this FBS is averaging below 120, very few diabetic related conditions are aggravated. A blood sugar at anytime d...... - 2009-07-03

http://images.thesun.co.uk/picture/0,,2007030568,00.jpg (http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2007030285,00.html) THIS is the terrifying moment a hippopotamus drags a zebra to its death — the first time an attack has been caught on film. A BBC1 crew captured the incident and recorded the enormous hippo ripping its helpless prey apart with its massive jaws. David Breed, a wildlife guide working with the crew in Kenya, said: “I’ve only seen hippos kill wildebeest at river crossings five times in 20 years. I have heard stories about hippo attacks on zebra, but I’ve never seen one.” The footage will be shown on BBC1 at 7pm tomorrow during the final episode of the series Trek — Spy On The Wildebeest. I have some original drawings by an artist Adolph Hummel. These are dated 1911 and 1912. I believe that these are the works of the father of M.J. Hummel, the originator of the Hummel line of porcelain figures. Can you direct me to a source of information that can verify the artist Adolph Hummel? I have already used your search engine without reults or good leads.Dear otcbob, Are you sure about the spelling? Berta (Maria Innocentia) Hummel's father was spelled "Adolf". It is true that this Adolf Hummel did have artistic ambitions as a young man, but had to take over the family business and later encouraged his daughter in developing her artistic skills. However, I doubt that he would have misspelled his own name. If you can conf...... - 2009-07-03

» software or website for tracking stock dividends
I have recently started investing in a diversified portfolio of dividend-paying stocks. I have found that tracking my account value on a day-to-day basis, which is easy when stocks don t pay dividends, is very labor-intensive when you have lots of dividend payers. The problem is that the day a stock goes Ex-Dividend, a certain dollar value vanishes from the account, because it is no longer built-in to the price of the stock, but the cash will not appear until the Dividend Pay Date. This issue affects all major brokerage websites, as well as the monthly account statements online and on paper. How do people solve this problem? Is there software or a website that will let me know how much dividend cash is "in the mail" at...... - 2009-07-03

Not just the engine size variance, even if they had same size engine, Altima still would have beat Civic. Nissan's are know for their performance. Period.Hahaha. Altima definitely. 1.7 SOHC vs 2.5 DOHC? Definitely. Nissan Altima. Also.. you know that VTEC doesn't magically give you more horsepower than the factory stated number right... » Laptop shopping: questions
I'm starting to shop for my first laptop and am not too tech-savvy, just starting to dig into it, but am learning. With so many options to choose from, I'd like to narrow things down a bit by asking a few questions: * Can I get something decent for $1,200 or less? * What features are must-haves for purposes of chasing? * What features should I avoid? (I read, for instance, of someone having problems with the wide-screen setup.) * Which brands and models do you love, and why? * Which brands would you avoid? * Those of you who use the bright-screen models, do you still love 'em? * How long do your laptops last you? Standing in line for 50minutes for a roller coaster on a 100 degree day doesn't sound much fun, nor does getting wet when it's only 55-60 degrees out. Weather, weather, weatherRollers. When downloading an rar, what exactly does it mean when one of the components shows up as, "file header broken?" Is there a way to repair it?Try downloading archive again, preferrably with some download manager to make sure you get exact copy of remote file (downloads can be broken on lower quality connections) and make sure you have the latest version of RAR (v3.42 for Windows is the lates and can be found at http://www.rarsoft.com/rar/wrar342.exe) because it may be that newer versions support additional header information. » Why is there an audio buzz that sounds throughout the playback of a DVD burned on my computer?
Hi, Using a MacBook, I've burned some films onto DVD. The video is great, but there is an intermittent buzz that appears. The buzz sound will be low, then the scene switches and the buzz is louder. Has anyone experienced this? Any workarounds? Thanks. Is the buzz audible on a DVD player? Just to make sure it is the DVD, not the computer. Check the cables routing the audio & video connecting to the computer. Maybe picking up noise from other components, power cords, ....? It is possible that you have a minor ground fault in your circuit. Both the player and the burner need to be properly grounded. Which dialogue (and where in the dialogue), or other source can I find it in?> First bear in mind, any quote by Socrates is going to originally be in the Greek language. Any English translation of that quote is **by definition** NEVER going to be exact, because it is a **translation**. What's more, the only sources we have for Socrates' teachings were not written by Socrates -- they were written by Plato (in Greek). » Vbulletin 2 or Vbulletin 3?
So I am running phpBB right now and finally got vBulletin. Should I go with version 2 or version 3? I understand version 3 is not final, but would it be better to go with version 3 because there will be a patch to make it final? If I go version 2.0 and get my own templates, etc., would it be simple to upgrade to version 3?If you go with vB2, make your own style etc, you wont be able to upgrade it to vB3 since all the templates have changed. If you go with vB2, make your own style etc, you wont be able to upgrade it to vB3 since all the templates have changed. It would be smart for everyone to go with VB 3 because we'll be able to update to the final version? The answer to that one is yes, you can download the latest version of vBulle...... - 2009-07-03
» Is it unethical to take a nanny-type of job that you don't plan on keeping for a long time? ?
In today's economy, it could be a year until the desired, professional job is found. But the perfect job could present itself in a month or two. Should the nanny position be accepted? Should the applicant be honest with the family (which means probably not getting the position)? An income is desperately needed. If you tell them upfront, maybe. It may break the kid's heart - but that stuff happens when you pay another woman to raise your kid for you. The main issue here is protecting the child. Yes, it is unethical to take the job -Knowing you'll leave and have the child bond to you.I would take the job if offered. You don't need to tell them that you might be looking elsewhere - and you never know, you might dec...... - 2009-07-03
» storm chase car show?? WTF
So Im in the Bizzell putting together a report for my tech writing class. Its a project in which we have to come up with a tutorial about a topic within our major. One of the requirements for the project is that it needs to have at least 24 steps. Well since I couldnt come up with anything better, I decided on storm chasing, also since I actually have been doing that recently. Anyway I do a google search on storm chase tutorials to see if there is already one online that I can use as a template. Well one of the first couple of links that came up led me to a page on a storm chase car show. And so Im like 'are you kidding me'? And on top of that, notice the location of these pics. Ive been here 6 years now and Ive never heard of such a thing...... - 2009-07-03
» Which of these groups of particles has the greatest mass?
a) a helium nucleus with two protons and two neutrons b) four electrons c) four individual protonsc) four individual protons The mass of four protons is 6.690x10^-24 g. The mass of a helium nucleus is 6.643x10^-24 g, 0.7% lighter. This should be posted in Chemistry for better answers, but I'll do my best from what I recall from high school. Electrons have very little mass, so, for the sake of this question, we can reasonably assume their mass is close enough to zero to be negligible. a) You have four atomic particles with mass. b) virtually zero mass. c) four atomic particles with mass. I am able to deduce the answer is NOT b, but I have no knowledge of whether a proton has a higher mass than a neutron (or vice ver...... - 2009-07-03
» Social-norms in Japan?
Dear all, I am going to move to Japan next summer. I am worried and excited about it. As the Chinese from Hong Kong, we do not have much social norms. E.g. we used to speak and lauge quite loudly in restaurants (except in some formal ones), we talk on mobile phones on public transportation, We eat on the street ... etc. I know these things may deem as impolite if I do them in Japan, right? Since I am going to live there, I have to seriously think about if I can live with other social-norms there. Can anyone kindly let me know anymore important social-norms that I should be aware of before I make a fool of myself? Also, I am now an English teacher teaching in a local primary school here in H.K. I don't know if I will be an opportunity ...... - 2009-07-03

My sister in law was wondering if I would do her wedding in December. I've never even attempted a wedding, obviously it would be free for her, and I would have a digital class at college this fall where I could probably improve.... but should I say no since I've never done a wedding? I don't want to do a poor job, you know? :blushing: If I did want to do it, would I need some kind of lighting fixture.... all I have is a camera with its lame flash, and they're getting married in the Illinois winter so outdoor pictures is going to be questionable if you knwo what I mean :mrgreen:This is easy. It is not a wise move to cover a wedding without enough experience. Edit: See if you can assist/second shoot a wedding photographer in your area for a ...... - 2009-07-03

What can you tell me about the techniques & precautions that mental hospitals (USA) typically use to suicide-proof their facility? I'm interested in "nuts and bolts" stuff (like breakaway shower heads on which you can't hang yourself), and also more general things like protocol for dealing with "suicide-risk patients". I'll take $15 worth of info ... so start with the "nuts & bolts" stuff and take it as far as my $15 will go :-) Perhaps are some published regulations or proposals that would detail this type of info. » Show only "x" lines of dynamically loaded html
hello, I've succesfully made a few flash websites, nothign special, with help from the kind folks here at kirupa, and now I am in need once again. I'm trying to use actionscript to load an external html file with css, but I only want a certain number of lines from the html file to be shown. The html file consists of events, but I only want to show current events on one particular page. I thought it might be possible to have actionscript read only the lines from....say...."Current Events" to "Past Evenets." I hope that makes sense. Another thought might be to use xml to do what I'm looking for, but either way, I'm at a loss for how to achieve my goal. Does anyone have any suggestions? cheers, e.s.a.The short answer is no, you really can't...... - 2009-07-03
» New "Steel" at chelsea
According to Bates (http://football365.com/All_News/Premiership_News/story_38082.shtml) anyways...Melchiot the first choice RB. I like Melchiot, i thikn he's a fairly decent player and more importantly he is a committed Chelsea man. But sometimes I have to admit to being a little scared when some nippy winger is running at him. Mario is great going forward, but sometimes his defensive duties get forgotten. Maybe he'll be more disciplined this season eh? I hope so, because I think I'd like him to do well and BE the future RB at the club. Steel? I'd rather see diamonds playing out there.Doesn’t think it too good an idea to be talking like this after only one game myself, the media will be dieing to use these quotes after our first loss. ...... - 2009-07-03

Just pull them off and hook them together... correct?Your car may run a little warmer than normal, but as far as a danger, no heater and no defrost!! But, if you would like to still bypass it then yes, the hoses should be on the fire-wall and just hook them together.bad core will NOT solve overheating... is thermostate in upside down....are hoses solid...[old ones can go flat under pressure]....if you have an overheating problem this will not help it. if the core is l...... - 2009-07-03

C(c1ccccc1)(=O)/C=C/C(C)C Does this compound exist? So the structure is phenyl-carbonyl group-trans double bond-isopropyl group, condensation product of acetophenone and 2-Methyl propionaldehyde (O=CC(C)C) Details on SMILES notation can be found at www.daylight.com. LOL you are so right !Yes, both will eventually end in a disaster. A disaster they will try to blame on Bush somehow. If he fails it's going to affect you too. If we love our country, we should all hope he succeeds regardless of our political affiliation. Bush already put your mortgage in jeopardy by not protecting the Public. He would never think to do that in most sectors since his global corporate buddies needed your wealth. Blaming Obama is a waste of your brain energy. What kind of side effects did you experience?Over 72 hours many times while in Combat and War zones. You really are pretty much worthless at that time due to the added stresses and pressures you are under. When you finally do get to sleep, It is a hard crash. After about 12 hours of sleep you need water and vitamins to get your brain balanced again. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone, but sometimes you have to do what you have to do. The longest I have ever been awake is about 36 hours. I was quite surprised really since I hardly experienced any side effects at all. But I did start to act in ways that I don't usually, but very few. For example I enjoyed staying up and refused to go to sleep, and when I was in bed, I don...... - 2009-07-03

» Whats the difference in a medical assisstant vs. CNA or LPN?
A medical assistant is trained to maintain a doctors office, faxes, telephone operation, filing and so on... A CNA is trained to care for the elderly or different areas of nursing sometimes in a doctors office if their willing to train you. An LPN is trained to care for patients (as a CNA) and also they are able to administer prescription drugs from the patients doctor. Good luck with whatever you decide!I'd like to start off by saying that all three of these professions care for patients. The settings they work in may vary, but they are all doing something to contribute to the well-being of the patient. An MA goes to school and gets a certificate or an associates degree. An LPN gets a certificate. A CNA completes a course, u...... - 2009-07-03

I guess my real question is the viability of these entertainment products. My buddy had a Tivo, but heard a rumor their business is shaky and they chage monthy service fees. I'm very interested in this saw, however I've yet to see 1 out of the box. One HD in my area has 1 in the box. Does anyone have this saw? What are your experiences, opinions, thoughts on this saw? Thanks in advance, JackNew to this forum, and not a big computer guy to begin with -- in fact there is a profoundly sad reason why I am writing about and even purchasing tools, instead of woodworking. But woodworking, I believe will be the best outlet when that time comes. Bought this saw today -- sight unseen; saw the 10" LZ and the Ryobi 12" laser CMS -- but I rolled the dice on this one. » Big problem with MYSQL db (specifically attachments table)
Ok, I just moved my attachments out of the database to the file system which went great and the forum was running just fine. As the next step vbulletin suggested I optimize the table which I did. At that point it marks the attachment table as 'crashed' and the entire forum is down now with db errors. I've tried about 10 times to repair this which fails. Heres the kicker I have no backups ! :( Any suggestions on how to repair this messed up attachment table (which is unimportant to me IMO since the attachments are now in the file system)..?
I suppose many of these questions have been addressed before, but technology keeps changing and I don't see any recent ...... - 2009-07-03

Standing in line for 50minutes for a roller coaster on a 100 degree day doesn't sound much fun, nor does getting wet when it's only 55-60 degrees out. Weather, weather, weatherRollers. » File header broken??
When downloading an rar, what exactly does it mean when one of the components shows up as, "file header broken?" Is there a way to repair it?Try downloading archive again, preferrably with some download manager to make sure you get exact copy of remote file (downloads can be broken on lower quality connections) and make sure you have the latest version of RAR (v3.42 for Windows is the lates and can be found at http://www.rarsoft.com/rar/wrar342.exe) because it may be that newer versions support additional header information. So, I recently started looking on ebay and amazon but all i get are new cameras. Not to disrescpect anyone's opinon, but I don't like new cameras, esp digitals. I know there are other cameras from the 70s but I would like recommendations from you guys. Also, I found the canon eos 300 and was considering it since it's cheap. my grudge against it is that it's light weight and plastic.
That buzz is probably either a 60-cycle power hum due to floating ground, or the analog side of your audio amplifie...... - 2009-07-03

Pinkfreud is correct; the quote you see all over the web which is attributed to Socrates is actually an English translation of Plato's writings of Socrates' teachings. In today's economy, it could be a year until the desired, professional job is found. But the perfect job could present itself in a month or two. Should the nanny position be accepted? Should the applicant be honest with the family (which means probably not getting the position)? An income is desperately needed. If you tell them upfront, maybe. Anyway I do a google search on storm chase tutorials to see if there is already one online that I can use as a template. » Suicide-proofing in mental hospitals
Thanks in advance, Brian.Dear sasquatch77-ga; We meet again?and thank again you for allowing me an opportunity to answer another one of your interesting questions. People are very craft and creative.

» Are there any dangers in bypassing the Heater Core?
My 92 240sx has a new water pump, thermostat, radiator and a new flush with coolant. I'm fairly certain it is the heater core. I do not have the money nor the time to replace this. Can I just bypass it and continue driving? Where are the hoses? Are they on the firewall? Just pull them off and hook them together... correct?Your car may run a little warmer than normal, but as far as a danger, no heater and no defrost!! But, if you would like to still bypass it then yes, the hoses should be on the fire-wall and just hook them together.bad core will NOT solve overheating... is thermostate in upside down....are hoses solid...[old ones can go flat under pressure]....if you have an overheating problem this will not help it. if the core is l...... - 2009-07-03

» Cure for weekly insomnia?
Hey it seems like after the weekend is over, for whatever the reason, Sunday night I can never sleep (as is the case right now). I figure its like a "comedown" to partying or whatever for the weekend but is there a way to make sure that this doesn't happen every week? Its just on Sunday nights too.Its the whole, breaking your Habit of getting to bed early for work. Sucks. Well I am a recovering insomniac, I used to be on medication for it. I hated it. It made me so tired I couldn't wake up. Or it made me moodier than usual. I would say smoke some green. That always helps. But legally I cant tell you to do that :P I would maybe talk to your doctor about a sleeping pill maybe. Or the good IL' Menes cure for...... - 2009-07-03

» Spectra from Organic Structures. Given: Smile notaition.
C(c1ccccc1)(=O)/C=C/C(C)C Does this compound exist? If it does, can I have IR, CNMR and/or HNMR spectra for the same?I guess it probably exists; the name would be 4-methyl-1-phenylpent-2-en-1-one.The SMILES for this can be rewritten as c1ccccc1C(=O)/C=C/C(C)C. So the structure is phenyl-carbonyl group-trans double bond-isopropyl group, condensation product of acetophenone and 2-Methyl propionaldehyde (O=CC(C)C) Details on SMILES notation can be found at www.daylight.com. The compound exists and is probably commercially available....... - 2009-07-03
» Is giving Obama "a chance" to be President like letting Barney Frank sell you a home mortgage?
LOL you are so right !Yes, both will eventually end in a disaster. A disaster they will try to blame on Bush somehow. If he fails it's going to affect you too. If we love our country, we should all hope he succeeds regardless of our political affiliation. Bush already put your mortgage in jeopardy by not protecting the Public. He would never think to do that in most sectors since his global corporate buddies needed your wealth. Blaming Obama is a waste of your brain energy. Try to think of ways to help when he finally gets into office. Yeah, he's your President too, just like Bush was ours. Difference is -- Obama listens.thats a good oneIt's amusing that you're referring to the situation as if the election s...... - 2009-07-03

» How long have you gone without sleep? ?

» Dynax / Maxxum 5D
Greetings all. The saga of the replacement for the SP500UZ continues. The story so far: Wife throws SP500 at ground in a vicious attempt to smash it and totally succeeds (warning - this element of the story has been embellished for artistic impact) Put upon husband secures agreement that a replacement can be sought and spends his total waking hours researching what's around. Finally settles (sort of) on Canon's Powershot S3 IS as it seems at least as good as the old Olympus. BUT I happened to have a spare hour last weekend despite the demands of 3 daughters (and the aforementioned wife) and found myself in one of the local electrical superstores and saw this: K-M Dynax (Maxxum) 5D + 17-70 kit for £200 (or around $400) marked...... - 2009-07-03
